Types of Eczema

Each of these types are caused by different things, so it is important to understand which type or types you have.

It is possible to have more than one type of eczema, and if you are unsure about your condition then you should consult with your doctor.

Some types of eczema have no known cause, and it is impossible to tell what is causing the condition.

With other types

the cause is well known, and this can help to avoid any triggers that may cause the problem to worsen. Atopic dermatitis is normally caused by the immune system of your body.

This condition runs in families and is hereditary, and is commonly accompanied by a family history of allergies, asthma, or hay fever as well.

Contact dermatitis is caused by an irritant or allergen coming into contact with the skin, resulting in burning, redness, and itching of the skin where contact was made.

There are numerous chemicals and other products and items that can cause this, even plants like poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac.

Other types of eczema include seborrheic dermatitis and Nummuler dermatitis. With seborrheic dermatitis the cause is not known. Cradle cap in infants is one example of this eczema type.

Scaly oily patches of skin that are yellowish may appear on the scalp and face usually, but it can affect other parts of the body as well.

Dandruff

is also considered to be eczema of this type.

Nummuler dermatitis is a chronic form of eczema, and this type is relatively rare. The usual occurrence of this eczema type is in elderly men, and is usually found on the arms.

Neurodermatitis is another type, and this eczema is chronic as well. This eczema is caused by something creating an itch, such as an insect bite.

The area becomes very irritated after being scratched, and itches more intensely so is scratched more, and this becomes a vicious cycle. This eczema type occurs most frequently in women, and in people aged twenty to fifty.
